Design Thinking

From theory to reality

Creating exceptional user experiences is rarely a neat, linear journey—it is an inherently iterative and fluid process. Over more than a decade in the field, I have developed a broad and deep UX toolkit that allows me to deploy mixed methods and strategic approaches tailored to complex product spaces. Below is an overview of the core frameworks and methodologies I leverage to turn insights into reality.

The UX Process is Non-Linear

As we uncover new user insights, we dynamically pivot—shifting forward or looping backward to refine our assumptions. This messy, iterative evolution isn't a flaw in the system; it is a natural, healthy sign of a truly user-centered practice.

The Double Diamond Framework

The Double Diamond model serves as the foundation of my design thinking strategy. It ensures that the team invests the necessary time to diverge and converge on the right problem space before dedicating engineering resources to building out a solution.

Strategic Stakeholder Alignment

Building empathy for internal stakeholders, cross-functional partners, and executive leadership is just as critical as advocating for the end user. To ensure a research initiative successfully drives business impact, I align early with partners by mapping out:

  • Core Responsibilities: Who is accountable for executing the final product decisions?
  • Product & Business Goals: What key performance metrics (KPIs) or outcomes define success for this quarter?
  • Functional Expertise: What unique strengths do engineering, product management, and marketing bring to the table that we can leverage during workshops?

Selecting the Right Research Method

Methodology selection is never one-size-fits-all. I strategically evaluate the project's core learning objectives and balance them against practical constraints—such as timelines, available data, and technical scope—to choose the most high-impact qualitative or quantitative approach.
